As a creative writer you have the fun of being able to reflect any side of you and your interests in a variety of ways; or create something totally different to your own world.
My first Novel ‘The Unusual Disappearance of Mr Spavin’ is a comic fantasy: a ridiculous fun romp around completely fictional lives. (Completely fictional that is apart from snippets of my life I have slipped in – largely for my own amusement.) It was immense fun to write. My second novel ‘Geek Club’ is well underway and follows two of the same characters from The Unusual Disappearance of Mr Spavin, on a new adventure. These books perhaps reflect the side of me that loves a bit of slap-stick and light hearted fun.
My series of podcasts though are of quite a different genre. The Twisted Yarn is a selection of strange tales, dark and a little disturbing. I have made these available to listen to as podcasts as many people these days feel they just don’t have the time to sit down and read a full length book. Besides, there is something exceptionally pleasing about being read to, don’t you think.
My blogs are me though. They are thoughts, memories, ramblings and more on my life past and present from my childhood, growing up in the folk world to my process of going through cancer diagnosis and treatment.
As a singer/songwriter I love the flow and rhythm of words but lately have been turning my thoughts to poetry as much as to songs. Through my poems I hope to evoke an essence of the things that have moved me to write about them.
As with all writers, I have many more projects on the go and in the pipeline including a selection of children’s stories, further novels – of quite different styles to my first, and much more.
